Botany imparts quality education in the field of Plant Sciences and fosters a deep appreciation for nature among students. The department is well-equipped with highly qualified and efficient faculty members who are capable of handling all areas related to Life Sciences. The study of Botany is vital, as plants are a fundamental part of life on Earth. They play a crucial role in agriculture, horticultural practices, extraction and development of drugs from medicinal plants, environmental conservation, and sustainable development. The program offers essential knowledge and technical skills to study plants in a holistic and interdisciplinary manner. Faculty members adopt diverse teaching-learning methods, including group discussions, seminars, peer teaching, chalk-and-board instruction, PowerPoint presentations, educational videos, field visits, and practical demonstrations beyond the syllabus.

Biotechnology is one of the most dynamic and rapidly advancing fields of modern science, offering innovative solutions for healthcare, agriculture, industry, and environmental sustainability. The program aims to train students in all areas of Botany and Biotechnology through a unique combination of Major, Minor, DSE, MDC, SEC, and advanced research work with a strong interdisciplinary approach.

Our department is dedicated to nurturing young minds by providing a strong foundation in life sciences, while equipping them with the skills needed to address the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Our faculty members are actively engaged in research across diverse domains, including medical, environmental, and agricultural biotechnology. 1. Honours/Honours with Research Programme

a) FYUGP Botany and Biotechnology

Double major Programme in Botany and Biotechnology with a panel of complementary courses to choose from

• Duration: 4 Year Regular
• Eligibility: A pass in Higher secondary Examination of the state or an Examination accepted by the University as equivalent there to with Biology as one of subjects

b) M.Sc. Biotechnology

• Duration: 2 year Regular course
• Eligibility: BSc Degree in any branch of Life Science from Kerala University or equivalent there to by the University securing not less than 55percent marks
